On Dec. 19th, 2009, the Bomberos Association participated in a great Christmas event at the East Los Angeles Civic Center. The Christmas event was coordinated by V.E.L.A. (Volunteers of East L. A.) and provided food-baskets and toys for 1,300 low-income families. Bomberos Association members that volunteered their time for this great cause were FFS Tom Burrola, FFS Mario Cabrales, FFPM Luis Hernandez, and Norma Romero (Exam Unit), and Mr. Richard Duarte. We were joined by student members of East L.A. College Association of Future Firefighters (AFFF). We were also joined by Congresswoman Judy Chu, Supervisor Gloria Molina, and State Senator Ron Calderon. All the volunteers did a great job and helped out tremendously to package and distribute all the food items for the hundreds of men, women, and children that had lined up at dawn.
The Bomberos also took part in the Navidad en el Barrio Adopt-A-Family Christmas Project. The three adopted families were presented with Christmas gifts from their "Wish List" and were treated to a delicious dinner at the Pan America Bank in East Los Angeles. |
